Flu vaccines for Nikolaiev Baby House
At the end of November 2006 director Olga Ivanovna had urgently contacted us. The Ministry of Health had no more money to buy the flu vaccines needed to avoid an epidemic this winter.
Flu still troubles orphanages and ‘school-internat’ (boarding schools) in Ukraine, in particular Baby Houses where young children are still weak. Directors plan each year in their budget sufficient money to inoculate each child against flu. But this year, as it was time to order vaccines for Nikolaiev Baby House, Ministry of Health informed that budget was already exhausted.
Thus director contacted us asking for support. In less than one week we could solve the problem, thanks to the American branch of LAdS, which accepted immediately to play the fire-brigade role. 80 vaccine doses (each child needs half a dose) were ordered, delivered, paid and each child was inoculated by mid December!
An additional example of the generosity of our sponsors, without whom this emergency exercise wouldn’t have been possible. A warm thank you to all sponsors of LAdS USA. We hope that the local authority will improve their responsibility for 2007!
